All the heroes are horrified by the events, while Thanos and Darkseid look on at the darkness enveloping all that was and ever could be. As their private war raged, the Spectre and the Living Tribunal tried to force a compromise by fusing the Marvel and DC Universes into a single Amalgam Universe that saw these two briefly merged into a composite being called Thanoseid.īriefly, the battle between the Brothers genuinely starts to destroy both of them, and the two superhero universes as well. The two battle in the background of the rest of the story, locked in combat that neither can gain the advantage in. But Darkseid is quick to insult Thanos by calling him nothing more than a pale imitation of the Tyrant of Apokolips. The two posture at each for a moment, with Thanos noting that a Disciple of Death versus a Lord of Destruction would be an interesting battle. However, this shifts somewhat when he's confronted by his opposite number from the DC Universe, Darkseid. Initially, Thanos, the Mad Titan of the Marvel Universe watches of the chaos, pleased by the bedlam caused by the tournament. In the process, the Marvel and DC Universes were briefly fused, allowing for heroes and villains from both universes to confront one another, even beyond the decisive fights. The universe with the most victories would continue on, while the losing universe would be eradicated. The champions would battle their most similar opposites in an 11-fight tournament. Deciding a battle between themselves would lead to the eradication of all things, the pair decided to settle their differences by choosing champions from their world.
